In April 2022 Immigration Act Regulations were amended to permit employers to hire up to 20% of their labour force as temporary foreign workers. In seven sectors with chronic labour shortages, including hospitals, construction and hospitality industries the cap was increased to 30%. The Government scrapped the limit on how many temporary foreign workers could be hired in seasonal industries and these workers can now remain in Canada up to 270 days. Labour Market Impact Assessments approvals will be valid for 18 months.
