Employment for Foreign Workers

Many employment opportunities exist in Canada for citizens of other countries. While agricultural jobs have traditionally been the focus and continue to be available, employment in other industries, including factories, warehouses and restaurants/hotels, has significantly increased for foreign national over the past number of years.

Fiducia aligns itself with reputable employers who understand their obligations to provide safe, secure and abuse-free work environments to its employees, including temporary foreign workers. Just as much as we stand behind the employers we represent, we also do what is necessary to protect the temporary foreign workers we help bring to Canada.

FAQs for Workers

A temporary foreign worker is someone who is neither a Canadian citizen nor permanent resident of Canada who wishes to work, on a temporary basis, in Canada.

Temporary foreign workers are permitted to work in Canada provided they meet certain specified conditions. Typically, the jobs for temporary foreign workers are labour intensive and/or lower skilled positions that Canadian citizens and permanent residents are either unwilling or unavailable to do.

Temporary foreign workers are permitted to work in Canada for up to two years with the possibility for extensions beyond that. The length of time will be dependent upon the terms of the work permit and visa granted to the worker.

To be considered a temporary foreign worker you must be offered a position in writing by a Canadian employer that has approval from the Canadian government to hire temporary foreign workers.

The employer is obligated to cover the cost of your travel to and from Canada.

Your family may accompany you to Canada and may, in certain circumstances work and/or go to school while in the country.

The employer must pay for mandated health and medical coverage for you while in Canada.

You will be covered as a worker under Ontario's Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, and as an employee under the Employment Standards Act. You will also have coverage under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
